Fonds and collections kept at the Archives were created through the operation of:

• central state bodies and institutions, central bodies of political parties and other organizations and associations of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, i.e., the Kingdom of Yugoslavia

• central state bodies and institutions, social and political organizations in the federation, institutions which performed activities of interest for the realization of functions of the federation between World War II and the end of existence of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro

• prominent political, cultural, scientific, public and other figures
