The theme of this exhibition of documents from the Archives of Yugoslavia fonds is youth as factor in developing socialism in Yugoslavia. Young people held that free, voluntary labour was a direct contribution to building socialism, at the time believed to be the truly democratic and just social order. The exhibition shows daily routine at construction sites: working days, leisure time, hygiene and health, as well as the other side – various instances of abuse of office, resistance and conflicts.
For the most part the exhibition shows ideological and political role of youth work actions, as they were called, since their goal was to build infrastructure facilities necessary for the development of administratively planned, socialist economy, and through such work create a new character – of a Yugoslav socialist, builder and defender of socialism. Finally, one part of the exhibition is dedicated to the place youth work actions had in foreign policy of socialist Yugoslavia, through participation of work brigades from Yugoslavia in development of infrastructure facilities abroad (mostly in "people’s democracies") and participation of young people from abroad (both from "people’s democracies" and from the West) in building such same facilities in Yugoslavia.
The exhibition “We are building the railroad – the railroad is building us”, Youth Work Actions in Yugoslavia 1946–1951, is open from 15 May to 1 June 2012 and it is what the Archives of Yugoslavia’s offers also for the event Museum Night on 19 May 2012.

The exhibition of the Archives of Yugoslavia "We are building the railroad – the railroad is building us". Youth Work Actions in Yugoslavia 1946–1951, was opened in the Salon of the Historical Archives of Zrenjanin on April 24, 2015. At the opening the audience was addressed by President of the City prim. Dr. Eleonora Marjanović and Ivan Hofman, the author of the exhibition. The representatives of the local print and electronic media were also present, and the author gave them an interview. The exhibition is open until May 22, 2015 and presents an offer of the Historical Archives of Zrenjanin for Museum Night, May 16, 2015.
